About Melissa Garrido
Master's degree in Clinical Sexology (2014)
Bachelor of Sexology (2006)
Member of the Ordre professionnel des sexologues du Québec

My professional background has provided me with experience working on several key issues. I have more than 16 years of experience in psychosocial intervention, having worked in the healthcare system and at several universities. Since 2021, I have led a private practice as a sexologist and psychotherapist. My approach in psychotherapy is humanistic-existential. This approach focuses on the individual “as a whole,” self-development, growth, and owning responsibility. Our goal is to find the significance that these problems have for you, how they relate to your personal and family history, and the role that they play in your life. During this journey, I will be your support to allow you to identify, feel and process your emotions. I take my professional development seriously, which is why I regularly receive clinical supervision and training to ensure I stay current in my practice.
I have experience working in mental health in the healthcare system (having worked for 10 years in a crisis centre and in several CLSCs) by helping people with depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, sexual assault, etc. I then worked in multiple universities for 4 years (ENAP, McGill University, Polytechnique Montreal), continuing my work in mental health and sexual violence. I have also contributed to the development and implementation of various university policies against sexual violence. In addition to my private practice as a sexologist and psychotherapist, I give trainings and conferences in mental health and sexual violence prevention.
Your well-being will be in good hands in individual psychotherapy with me. Please note that I do not offer couples therapy.
